Marshall appoints aerospace veteran to lead in-house manufacturing unit

Marshall has welcomed Andrew Auker-Howlett as Head of Manufacturing Support, a key role underpinning the company’s maintenance, repair, overhaul and engineering activities.

As the only C-130 Hercules maintenance and service centre authorised by Lockheed Martin to produce parts independently, Marshall's Manufacturing Support department provides aircraft operators with parts and structures for maintenance inputs.

The ability to quickly and autonomously manufacture these parts, which are often difficult to obtain or have long lead times, represents a significant competitive edge for Marshall. Since 2004, the team has delivered in excess of 5,000 parts for legacy C-130 platforms and the current production model C-130J Super Hercules.

The department is also responsible for bespoke prototyping and production for Marshall’s engineering projects, including aircraft modifications and capability enhancements.

The Cambridge-based facility is equipped with advanced capabilities ranging from CNC machining to metal forming, 3D printing, engraving, welding, electrical assembly, treatment and special processing.

Andrew will be responsible for overseeing the full manufacturing process, maintaining safety and quality standards and implementing continuous improvement programmes. With nearly 30 years of experience across manufacturing and engineering organisations, he has overseen quality, health and safety, and operations management for Lockheed Martin UK, UTC Aerospace Systems and most recently C4 Carbides.

“Manufacturing Support is one of Marshall’s unique strengths, which is why I’m so pleased to have Andrew leading the team.

“He has an incredibly strong background in engineering and quality management for leading aerospace and defence businesses, which is something I know our customers will value.”

For Andrew, this new role actually marks a return to Marshall: from 2001 through 2011, he held several roles within the engineering side of the company’s aerospace business, including Planning Engineer, Senior Quality Engineer, and Quality Manager.

“I’m delighted to be rejoining the team at Marshall to help deliver this world-class capability, and am looking forward to supporting our mission-critical work for customers around the world.”
