We all continue to be shocked at the impact the war in Ukraine is having on its people, and the many thousands fleeing into neighbouring countries to keep themselves safe from harm.
Sinara Nascimento from Marshall Aerospace’s Customer Services team really wanted to make a personal difference to those fleeing by doing something quite extraordinary. Along with her husband Janusz, they drove over 1,200 miles from the UK to the Ukrainian border to personally deliver plenty of badly needed supplies.
“We didn’t want to just sit back and do nothing - we wanted to do something to make a difference. We didn’t have time to raise funds or seek donations before we went and rather than go on an expensive holiday, we decided to use that money to fund our trip’’
proudly states Sinara.
They left the UK on 26 March and returned on 2 April, driving the 1,200 miles there and back to Medoyka - a Ukrainian border town in Poland. To ensure refugee safeguarding, Sinara didn’t have the time to register and be approved to transport refugees from the border but her donations of clothing and foodstuffs were welcomed by the refugee stations set up in Medoyka.
Sinara recalls:
“There were volunteers there from all over the world, there was huge appreciation for our donations, especially the baby food that was in very short supply. It was a most amazing experience!”
Sinara is now looking at how they can further support these refugees and are an extraordinary example of how we can pull together to support those in need.
