Stitching up the C-130: how Marshall Aerospace protects the mission from the inside

As one of the world’s leading military aviation specialists, Marshall Aerospace supports the C‑130 from nose to tail. Within a single organisation, our work touches everything from external structures and components to avionics, systems—and even interior trim.

The members of our dedicated interiors team have decades of experience in crafting and repairing military-grade coverings. Their job is just as vital as the work being done by their “on-aircraft” colleagues in the hangars: from cockpit floorings to insulated blankets and seat coverings, the interiors of a C‑130 provide essential insulation to support operational performance.

In the video below, we take viewers behind the scenes in Marshall Aerospace's trim shop to explore how interiors are crafted and repaired to endure the toughest environments.

Engineering interiors built to endure

Each blanket covering the inside of a C-130 fuselage is made with a rugged fibreglass core wrapped in durable vinyl, with the platform’s signature sage‑green finish applied in accordance with technical manuals. Nothing is left to interpretation: colour, thickness, finish and condition are all tightly governed to ensure safety, compatibility and consistent performance across global fleets.

These blankets are an essential layer of insulation, reducing cabin noise and retaining warmth during missions in extreme climates.

Craftsmanship you can see and feel

While engineering and specifications guide what we make, our people use their expert techniques to craft quality interiors.

We combine traditional craftsmanship with specialist equipment to deliver exceptional build quality. Hand‑stitching, precision leather cutting, quilting and edging are performed by our skilled interiors technicians.

Supporting this expertise is industrial machinery capable of sewing through up to seven inches of leather, enabling the team to tackle the most demanding configurations required for military use.

Interiors as part of MRO

Making and repairing interiors is a core part of our maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) process. During each input, the interiors are removed and inspected against technical requirements to confirm they still meet standards for durability and performance.

Each C‑130 typically carries around 330 interior blankets, while the stretched variant contains more than 360.

Restoring the inside of an aircraft to as-new condition ensures these valuable military assets continue to perform as required, with effective insulation, reduced cabin noise and stable temperatures.
