Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) has officially announced General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada (GDLS-Canada), representing the Power Team, as the preferred bidder for its Logistics Vehicle Modernization (LVM) project.
The Power Team, made up of GDLS-Canada, Marshall Land Systems Canada, Mercedes Benz, Soframe and Manac, will provide the replacement for the Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF) existing fleet of logistics vehicles, which can be used to transfer resources, personnel and military assets during domestic and international operations and training exercises.
With GDLS-Canada serving as prime integrator, Marshall will produce a range of interchangeable containerised mission modules capable of being mounted onto Mercedes-Benz Zetros trucks, which will provide the common vehicle chassis across all configurations.
“Today’s milestone is an important step forward in this project,” said Canadian Minister of National Defence Bill Blair. “This decision brings the Canadian Army closer to receiving the vehicles that it needs to continue to protect Canadians.”
A contract is anticipated to be awarded in spring 2024, conditional on final government approvals.
“The selection of the Power Team as preferred bidder for LVM marks the start of a new era in our longstanding relationship with the Department of National Defence and our support for the CAF,” said Marshall Canada Executive Vice President Sam Michaud.
“As production ramps up at our brand new facility in Moncton, New Brunswick, delivering on LVM will offer some incredible opportunities to invest in hiring and training, while also identifying local supply chain partners for our made-in-Canada offering.”
Marshall Canada opened the doors of its new 82,000 sq ft facility in October last year. The new facility will produce a range of specialist containers, both for the North American market and for export under Marshall’s key European contracts.
The LVM project will enable the creation of over 500 new direct employment opportunities in eastern Canada by 2028. Production from the Land Systems Moncton facility is expected to boost New Brunswick’s fabricated metal manufacturing sector GDP by as much as 15 per cent by 2026, while driving export revenues to help address the province’s trade deficit in the sector.
Marshall Land Systems Canada is currently hiring for a range of permanent positions based out of the new Moncton facility, including fitters, painters, quality control, and contract admin. If you’d like to learn more, visit our recruitment page.
